CWM Fellowship

The Webber Family and Bike & Build have established the Chris Webber Memorial Fellowship to support the efforts of a member of the greater Bike & Build community in his or her further involvement in affordable housing efforts.

The Fellowship is a one-time award that may be used to finance an individual’s participation in a project, supplement his or her income from regular employment or volunteer efforts, or involve the individual in any other traditional or non-traditional affordable housing project.  (Please note that the Fellowship will not fund an individual’s involvement in Bike & Build or similar fundraising events.)

Through the CWM Fellowship, the Webber Family and Bike & Build aim to:

-     Honor Chris’ dual role as a Bike & Build participant and staff member.  As a Bike & Build and Habitat Bicycle Challenge alum and a Bike & Build staff member, Chris had a special perspective on the program and a unique connection to its participants.  The CWM Fellowship is to be awarded to a member of the greater Bike & Build and HBC communities to recognize Chris's commitment to both programs.

-     Encourage members of the Bike & Build community to remain involved in affordable housing efforts.  Chris' decision to join Bike & Build as Program Director demonstrated his commitment to continuing involvement in affordable housing efforts.  The award is intended to encourage similar participation in this spirit, by helping to fund individuals’ continued involvement in affordable housing projects.

-     Ensure that the fellowship will be awarded in perpetuity.  The CWM Fellowship will be a permanent, lasting tribute to Chris.  Funding decisions will be made to ensure long-term viability of the Fellowship.

Types of Projects Funded

Criteria for fellowship eligibility is intentionally broad and somewhat vague; the selection committee is open to a wide range of projects so long as they are somehow at least loosely tied to affordable housing or related issues.  Some things that are taken into consideration when evaluating proposals include the short and long term impact of the project on both the applicant and communities served, as well as the overall effect of the fellowship's funding on the successful completion of the project.  You're encouraged to take a look at some of our previously funded projects, and always free to to inquire about your any projects you may consider submitting for funding.
