Paige Hicks

Paige Victoria Hicks (P2SF09, Leader - P2S10) died on July 20, 2010, in a collision with a truck outside of Vetal, South Dakota while leading Bike & Build’s Providence to Seattle route.

Paige was an alumnae of Bike & Build's 2009 Providence to San Francisco trip, where her enthusiasm and kindness made her a beloved member of the team.  She was the mastermind behind the "Nevada Regatta," a series of crazy obstacles and challenges throughout the entire state of Nevada.  Her enthusiasm and support of Bike & Build through the P2SF ride, combined with Paige’s energy and love of organizing, led her to continue her involvement with Bike & Build in a leadership role in 2010.

During the summer of 2010, Paige was en route to Seattle, riding in her spunky, creative way that inspired her teammates.  On July 20, she pulled off of the road with another rider.  Although they were on the shoulder of the road, a semi-trailer struck and killed Paige.

Paige grew up in Chesterfield, Missouri, with her parents, Dawn Holemon and Fred Hicks, and her sisters, Mallory and Haley.  She excelled at Marquette High School, graduating as salutatorian with a 4.62 GPA.  She was also the AP State Scholar for Missouri, and a National Merit Finalist.  Paige enjoyed horse-back riding and running, and she competed in varsity track and cross-country in high school.

Paige attended Brown University, where she studied Biology.  Her sophomore year, Paige was a Women's Peer Counselor, mentoring dozens of students.  She was also an active volunteer in the Relay for Life committee.  In the spring of 2010, Paige was voted a Captain of Disco Inferno, Brown’s Ultimate Frisbee team, where she received much of her inspiration for her wacky outfits.

Paige was a wonderful, inspirational, brilliant, and unique person.  Her absence is deeply felt in the Bike & Build community and within all whom she touched.  Paige cared deeply about others and was committed to community service and involvement.  People gravitated towards her, and she lit up every room.
