My name is Nathan Kane and I'm 24 years old. I was born and raised in Reading, PA, but I currently reside in Oviedo, FL. My move down the coast happened only a few short months ago when I made the decision to attend Full Sail University and further my education. Initially I started my college career as a percussion performance major but soon fell in love with the inner workings of the entertainment industry. Graduating next year with a music business bachelors degree, I hope to continue pursuing my passion for storytelling through motion picture and still images. Although my career path and hobbies are very similar, you will most likely catch me behind a set of handlebars, a camera or a drum set during any free time that I have.
The Bike & Build organization was brought to my attention by a great friend of mine who is also interested in the opportunity. We had been looking at taking a trip ever since graduating high school but never got around to it. After discovering what Bike & Build had to offer we knew it was something worth getting behind. This was definitely the adventure and support for a cause we were looking for.
Affordable housing is something that many can benefit from. In order to see a positive and constant result there must be a sustained effort to keep the cause moving forward. I chose to raise money for Affordable Housing because I don’t want to see it loose any steam. It’s a worthy cause that benefits many. Everyone that helps raise money for the cause is helping ensure that the proper funding is maintained in order to put more people in homes. Building better and brighter futures is good for everyone involved.
Although not on an affordable housing project, I have done other volunteer work. Passionate about music since the third grade, I found my calling in music education. Shortly after graduating high school I realized that I wanted to continue forward progress of our schools music program. Through countless hours of rehearsal and tons of sweat equity it was always very rewarding to be able to say that the group grew for the better every season. Moving to Florida and leaving that was the first time I realized how much that had become a part of my life. I know Bike & Build will help fill that void and give me a chance to experience something completely new and exciting.
Although my legs are already trembling in knowing that I won’t be able to train in the hills of PA, there’s very little I’m nervous about in the journey ahead. The excitement and intrigue absolutely overwhelm it all. Biking across the country is bound to help open your mind, open your heart and maybe, just maybe, present a little bit of self discovery.
So very glad my best friend talked up Bike & Build only a few short months ago.
