My name is Annie Miller and although I may have one of the most common American names around, I can assure you that there is much more originality with this girl than what initially meets the eye.
I will be 24 years old by the time I am crossing the country in one of the coolest possible ways to go - on a bike! (Cue the song "I'm on a boat...." but insert bike...) and there you have my rendition of "This is the song that never ends..." I promise my sole intention is not to make my team want to find the nearest cliff to jump off of – I am merely looking forward to a summer of opportunity and service where I hope to meet lifelong friends. I am incredibly excited for the Summer of 2014 and the adventures that lie ahead. I am so fortunate to be able to take the time at this point in my life to devote a summer to Habit for Humanity and fundraising for the Affordable Housing cause.
I am extremely grateful to my current employer, Videojet Technologies Inc., to allow me to take a leave from work to pursue a lifelong goal of mine. As I bike across the country I will be thinking of my fellow co-workers that I am leaving behind and although I will miss them all… I can’t help but think that I will relish being in the daylight and in fresh air (…as much as I love conference rooms) for several weeks straight!
I currently work for Videojet/Danaher Corporation as an HR Generalist. I am in the Purdue class of 2012 and graduated with my BS in Business Management. During my time at Purdue I experienced many great things including the study abroad program in Sevilla Spain, Delta Zeta Sorority, I was a fitness instructor, and even came up with a few creative Breakfast Club costumes (Purdue pre-football game tradition). Since graduation I have relocated and currently reside in the greater Chicago area. I am an avid fan of the Chicago Bears and all other local sports teams. As for hobbies I still am a fitness instructor where I teach spinning (indoor cycling) and other weights/tabata classes, I love any sports played outdoors (my number one being downhill skiing), and jump at any opportunity to try something new – hence my passion for Bike & Build!
I am originally from Janesville, WI where I was born and raised alongside a great community of friends and family. I suppose when writing a bio about oneself you should include a blurb about the family, which is easily summarized on one statement: I would not be where I am today without the love and support of my family, especially my parents. They have always been supportive of my career and life aspirations, and were the first to jump on the bandwagon when I told them I wanted to ride my bike cross-country for a summer. I think they have come to terms with the fact that I can rarely be coaxed out of a seemingly crazy idea…and when the crazy idea goes hand in hand with giving back to the community as well as seeing the country-side, they were reluctant to say the least to be anything but supportive.
Whether you are reading this bio as a past rider, a prospective rider, a family member, a donator, a friend, a crazy ex, my boss, a coworker, my friend on Twitter, or anybody else I did not mention, I first of all commend you for getting through my entire bio. I thank you for taking the time to read about me, and look forward to providing you with updates throughout the summer. To all people that have donated or plan to do so, thank you for donating to such a wonderful cause!
