Hi! I'm Kera Murphy and I'm originally from Boston, MA. After an indecisive span in college and finally graduating from Wentworth Institute of Technology with a degree in Management, I began a day-to-day desk job in Boston's Back Bay. After getting the travel bug and quitting my job, I packed up and moved to a ski town in Utah. I chose to apply to Bike & Build to take advantage of my mid-20s and continue seeing the country once my ski job is finished for the season. I love the comraderie of the tours, and the mission of the organization as a whole. I helped coordinate an annual Service Day at Wentworth, and spent my 2009 spring break in New Orleans, LA helping to refinish a house damaged by Hurricane Katrina. My group worked with Rebuilding Together, and we loved every minute of it. We formed bonds that went beyond that one week in the south, and that's something I'd love to experience again.
I'm stoked to bike across the country and not just see the sights, but really be immersed in the regions. Driving across the country is great but fleeting. Biking through and staying in the towns and cities allows you to be a bigger part of the journey; meet the people, taste the local flavors, etc. I'm both excited for and terrified about biking the Rockies... beautiful views, but I can feel my quads burning already!
To sum it up, I'm looking for my next big adventure in life. Bike & Build helps me build my life story while trying to improve the lives of others.
