The Bike & Build Scholarship Program engages young adults from low-income backgrounds in a life-changing opportunity to serve their communities through an incredible adventure. Riders age 18-26 will develop skills in teamwork, leadership, and perseverance. This accomplishment will further empower scholarship recipients to serve others for many years beyond the completion of the trip. Bike & Build opens new doors to these young adults.

Since its inception, the Scholarship Program has allowed 7 young adults to participate in Bike & Build who otherwise would not have had the opportunity to do so. Both 2013 & 2014 saw 2 riders each summer complete our annual regional ride. In 2015, the program was expanded to 3 awards: 2 cross-country and 1 regional. We aim to fund 5 scholarships for the 2016 summer!

Throughout the summer, our scholarship riders will pedal to different affordable housing organizations across the United States, raising money and awareness to support these nonprofits. The scholarship is a life-changing opportunity for community engagement for those who may not otherwise have the chance to participate in such an event.

Donations to this scholarship fund will support 2/3 of a rider's required fundraising, the purchase of a bike for the rider to keep, necessary cycling gear, travel to and from the start and end of the trip, and other expenses incurred during the program.

We've had a large number of applicants, and we will have our candidates selected by the end of December. The recipients will then complete a reduced fundraising requirement, training miles, sweat equity build hours, affordable housing curriculum, and other preparations with the support of the Bike & Build staff, Board of Directors, sponsors, and community volunteers.

We appreciate your support!
